Apparently, Microsoft's new search engine offering, "Bing", is being hosted on Linux servers of an unknown flavor. One would have thought, or at least assumed as I did, that they would run on the latest (or near latest) Microsoft Server operating system, such as Windows Server 2008 and it's IIS 7.0 Web Server.

Obviously not, according to these query results from netcraft.com:

I have seen this noticed in only one other blog, and that individual was mentioning how it seems Microsoft doesn't have any faith in their own server operating systems. Possibly true, but if it were me, and I was planning the project, I'd certainly use a unix-based server running Apache as the www service. I think it's a good idea. I actually like Bing, a first for me, and I hope it can start a new, fresh search engine battle, like we used to see in the old days. Google is starting to look a lot like Microsoft did back in the late 1990s.
